Welcome to 6th Grade We will travel through the year learning about the eastern hemisphere, the required math concepts, and hands on science in the lab. Looking forward to success throughout the year
Welcome to middle school, 6th grade! My classes are about participation! If you are actively engaged in the activity or discussion - then you will be learning! You will be using Moodle to access homework, use internet resources that I have posted for you, and upload your work for my review. We will be working together and creating shared documents that will help us all as we move forward. It's going to be a wonderful year!
In Math we study fractions, geometry, measurement, decimals, and graphing. In Science we follow the Lab Learner program. The Western Hemisphere is the area of concentration in Social Studies.
This year you'll pack up your tote bag and spend the day with two teachers instead of just one. You will focus on becoming an organized and independent reader, writer, and thinker. As you learn new grammar skills, you will be encouaged to use them in our many creative writing projects. In religion class, the sacraments and mass will become more meaningful for you as you learn more about them. A year of challenges and a lot of fun await you in fifth grade.
Plan on having an amazing time as a fourth grader! We will constantly be out of our seats moving around and communicating with one another while learning long division, the Ten Commandments, higher order thinking skills, Pennsylvania's history, and forms of energy. Some of the highlights are the PA scavenger hunt, the delicious ethnic lunch, the bear project, the PA tea party, and the squid dissection. I have high expectations for all of you, and I'm looking forward to us building a nurturing and supportive classroom environment together.
Our classroom is one of respect for all, love for learning, and laughter. I know all students will feel welcomed every day and will grow and develop into fine young teens . I believe movement and role play makes the day fun and exciting and helps with long term memory. Our BEST memory for learning reinforcement is the dissection of squid. I have been doing this project in our animal unit for over 15 years and is one of the most enjoyed event we do all year! Don't forget, we ALL have to try the calamari . There are so many fun events that we do throughout the year! Every month brings something new and exciting. Fourth grade is definitely a great year at SSJ.
Room 13 is a wonderful place where we will have fun learning new things and growing in our love for Jesus!
Room 3 is an awesome place!! You will learn lots and lots of interesting things, and hopefully have a good time while doing it. There will be a lot of fun and challenging experiments to perform in the Science Lab. In Social Studies, which we will have almost every day, we'll learn a lot about our community, city, and country. The class will work on many fun projects during the school day. We will enjoy working and praying together.
Welcome to Second Grade! It will be a very exciting year, as we learn many new things and prepare for First Reconciliation and First Communion!
One of the most important things that we will do this year in second grade is prepare for two sacraments; First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We will prepare for Reconciliation in the fall, and First Communion in the spring. In addition to religion, math, ILA, and social studies, we will also learn cursive this year. Outside of the classroom, we will have gym, music, art, library, computers and Spanish once a week. We will also visit the science lab once a week, covering topics such as health and hygiene, weight and volume, and the water cycle.
Welcome to First Grade! I look forward to exciting year working with your child. My goal for the year is that each child grows spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally. That each of us will learn from one another. Throughout the year we will be doing fun activities.
Our classroom is a self contained classroom including Religion, Math, Science and ILA. The students go out of the classroom for Spanish, Physical Education, Art, Computers and Music. Our classroom is interactive. We use group work, Smart Board activities and hands on material as often as possible. We strive to have the children learn in a loving, sharing environment.
Welcome to the best, new adventure! Kindergarten is an experience where your child will grow spiritually, academically, physically, socially, and emotionally through a faith-based curriculum in a caring, Catholic environment at Saints Simon and Jude School.
Welcome to Kindergarten! This year will be filled with a lot of learning and fun. I enjoy watching the students get excited when they "get it" whether it is understanding a math concept, reading a sentence or completing a center activity. My goal is to help your child grow academically, spiritually and socially.
I deliver guidance programs in grades Kindergarten through eighth grades. I run the SSJ Peace Pals Program. I run the Child Study Team. I work with students individually and in small groups. I counsult with parents and teachers on helping students be successful.
SS. Simon and Jude School is a K-8 Catholic School Institution under the direction of the Office of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Students will be familiar with the Sign of the Cross, various prayers, the Spanish alphabet, numbers 0-1000, and vocabulary dealing with family members, house descriptions as well as school vocabulary.
Children come to the library and put their books on the shelf. After a library skill is taught, children complete work on that skill. During this time one table at a time selects their books.
Welcome to the World of Books Students come once a week to return and take-out books and magazines. They are instructed on terms such as different types of books, book awards, book reports, reference material, research, plays, poetry, web sites, Library of Congress, public domain, plagiarism, etc. I also collaborate with the Language Arts teachers to integrate course curriculum activites.

There will be new lesson plans this year, using web 2.0 techniques! Soooooo.... HEADS UP!
Real life activities take place in all my classes. These activities leads us on a road to outside problems and solutions using MICROSOFT OFFICE products. These products are used to create projects such as, starting up a new business: Example... An ice cream shoppe, or a pizza store. There's a major project that creates a SS. Simon and Jude Annual Golf Tournament, produced by our 8th Great! students. During this event, A MINIATURE GOLF HOLE IS SETUP IN MY CLASSROOM to facilitate a golf outing. There is a boys vs. girls golf contest. PRIZE... A BAG OF HERSEY'S CANDY KISSES!
Last time, the boys were the clear winners.
During most classes, especially the early grades, I call on each student to "celebrate" events in their lives: Examples; A new brother or sister, a recent trip, a new pet. I normally start celebrations with the latest techniques in "dunking" cookies in milk, I topic well received by my younger students (wink ).
This "celebrating" brings about warm feelings in my classroom, and preps my students for "warm & fuzzy" feelings which often lead students into a happy classroom environment . SEE YA' IN CLASS!
Welcome to Physical Education!!Our classes are age appropriate activities in a non competitive environment. The objective of our P.E. classes is to involve the students in vigorous physical activities and to have fun while doing it.

Students will be introduced to different artists and their art styles so that they can develop an appreciation for art. “Hands On” projects will extend their learning while teaching them how to use a variety of art materials. Lower grade students will work on developing their fine motor skills. Upper grade students will apply the elements of art and composition to their artwork and learn how to critique artwork in a positive manner.
